Hard labor and low wages. This has become familiar to many American people working to make an honest living. In President Obama’s State of The Union address, he proposed an increase in minimum wage. Current minimum wage is $7.25, Obama wants to see this increased to $9 an hour. Speaking directly to those earning minimum wage, President Obama said, “Let’s declare that in the wealthiest nation on earth, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty.” If successful, the increase of minimum wage will occur over a period of two years, finally reaching $9 in approximately 2015.
When one applies for a job and is hired, the goal is to live better than the day before. With minimum wage at its current state, it’s almost impossible to make ends meet and have money left over. If President Obama’s plan is successful at least 15 million people will be able to say they are now comfortable and not struggling. It is important that we stay alert of what’s going on! Make our voices heard! A decision made today, will definitely affect us tomorrow!

Singer/Songwriter Chris Brown appears in court once again, after allegedly falsifying his community service hours.
In 2009, Chris Brown was sentenced to five years probation after facing felony assault charges for abusing his current girlfriend, pop star Rihanna. After pleading guilty to the assault charges, Brown was sentenced to 180 days of community service. Usually supervised by a probation officer, Brown was allowed to complete his community service in Virginia under the supervision of the Richmond Police Chief Bryan Norwood. District Attorney Jackie Lacey stated, “The paperwork Brown submitted to show he had completed community labor is at best sloppy documentation and at worst fraudulent reporting.”
Chris Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos combats these allegations with emails from firefighters and police officers of Richmond Virginia. The district attorney also brought up Brown’s other probation violations. Brown was accused of getting into a physical altercation with R&B singer Frank Ocean, as well as stealing a fan’s cell phone after the fan took a picture of him. These were not the only violations! THERE’S MORE! Brown was also involved in throwing a chair out of the window at the Good Morning America studio, and failing a drug test.
District Attorney Lacey is asking that Brown complete the mandated 180 days of community service with a Los Angeles probation officer present. Chris Brown is scheduled to reappear in court April 5 for a final verdict.
